Poets Against War continues the tradition of socially engaged poetry by creating venues for poetry as a voice against war, tyranny and oppression.

Siren In The Street

I remember Vietnam
And the threat of the atomic bomb
And the hostage crisis caused by the man who wore a sheet
The ugly threats of war are back
Only this time it's with Iraq
This isn't just a wake-up call
It's a siren in the street

How many people have to die-
How many loved ones have to cry-
Until the comprehension of this madness is complete?
When will leaders see that war
Is just a ruthless, greedy whore?
This isn't just a wake-up call
It's a siren in the street

What kind of twisted mind could like
The idea of a "pre-emptive srtike"?
That any good could come from this is only self-deceit
George W. gave us no other choice
Than to protest with collective voice
This isn't just a wake-up call
It's a siren in the street
