Evolution

Because language is body
to emotion for a moment
before my words are formed
I am pure emotion flashing
images drawn from adrenaline
I see myself pounding

my small woman fist
against the side of his head
until it splits as if
I am still a species
without language I am
a violent urge to harm him

for a moment as man
when man is darkest and dark
until language begins again
I am impulse to sin
forgetting my name
is human

and violence
is a separate thing.

Statement

War:
too much medicine
will kill you.
