STAN

STAN

During a reconnaissance
on the outskirts of Baghdad
he found the first one,
but couldn't tell you
why he picked it up
or kept it.
Maybe it was tangible proof
of frustration and revenge.
Then he dared himself.

When he was discharged
Stan had 41 ears
at the bottom of his bag.
He knew it was sick,
but it kept him
from putting a gun to his head;
sometimes when he thought about the ears,
he pissed on himself.
