Washing Square Park

I passed a city park the other day
Inside which people live
Ever since the Hurricane
Became a hippie tent village

Wide spaces under old trees
Filled with camper cars
Blue tarps cover army tents
Let’s all thank the government

Each person tells a story
Of wind and rain and flood
No one thought they would be
Still left here in the mud

I passed right by this park today
To find they were all gone
No tents, no clothes, no food
No blankets, no trash, no trace
