recollections for Brandon

i remember Brandon
like a ghost who slipped between
forgetful memories.

one day, walking home from school,
scott started punching Brandon
while we stood round
     watching
          cheering
               smiling
until we were broken up
     scattered
          forgetful.

ten years later,
they shattered his mind in the desert
before sending him home broken
with a head full of secrets.

i heard later
he went missing in portland
     vanishing
          like a ghost.
